Man Dies In Maywood Deputy-Involved Shooting

MAYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A man has died in a deputy-involved shooting in Maywood.

The sheriff's department says they were responding to a call of a man trying to kill himself in the 3800 block of East 56th Street around 11:15 p.m. Friday night.

Deputies say when they arrived to the scene they tried several times to get the man put down an object that looked like a knife, but at one point, the man threw the object at them, narrowly missing their heads.

They said the man was holding the knife to his stomach.

Later, investigators say the suspect grabbed a second knife and started moving toward the deputies, who fired.

The suspect died at the scene.

He has been identified as 42-year-old Salvador Palencia-Cruz of Maywood.
