Barber Fatally Shot During Robbery Attempt At Hair Salon In South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – Authorities say a popular barber was killed Friday evening during an attempted store robbery in South Los Angeles.

The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. at 65th Place and Western Avenue, officials said.

Randy Paige, reporting for KCAL9, said two men entered the Western Hair Salon and demanded money at the family-owned business.

He said family identified the victim as Kevin Williams, 32. Friends and family also called him "Quincy."

Williams was also widely known around South LA as "Q the Barber." Friends and family described him as a "beloved member of the community." They said he would often put on free barbecues for kids in the neighborhood. Friends also told Paige he was known to give out lots of free haircuts.

Police said they are looking for two suspects.

Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call the LAPD.
