Student, 13, Arrested For Bringing Loaded Gun To Garden Grove School

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — A middle school student has been arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school, Garden Grove police said Wednesday.

The 13-year-old student was arrested Monday morning at Jordan Intermediate School, located at 9821 Woodbury Ave.

Police officers were sent to the campus around 9:40 a.m. that day regarding a report of a student with a loaded gun in his backpack.

"Officers detained the student and did locate a loaded, Colt Mark IV, .38 caliber, semi-automatic handgun, black with wood grips in his backpack," Lt. Ben Stauffer said. "It was not out at the time, it was not brandished at anyone. It was merely in his possession."

The gun had no magazine in it, but the student did have a loaded magazine in his front pants pocket.

"The gun was properly registered to a family member that lives with the suspect," Stauffer added.

A rifle found at the student's home was also seized by police because it was not properly registered.

It was unclear why the student brought the gun on campus.

Parents at the school were notified of the incident.

The student was arrested and booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall on weapons charges.
