Family, Friends Gather To Honor Counselor Who Died In Orland Bus Collision

LA VERNE (CBSLA.com) — Family and friends gathered at the University of La Verne Wednesday night to remember a 26-year-old man who died last week in a bus crash in Northern California.

Arthur Arzola, an admissions counselor at Humboldt State University, was one of 10 people killed last Thursday when a FedEx big rig slammed into a tour bus in Orland.

KCAL9's Stacey Butler reported that the victim's brother, David Arzola, gave an emotional farewell, as did a number of other loved ones.

"The last time I ever saw his beautiful face…I'll never forget it. I told him, 'I'm tired, bro. Do you think I can stay at your house?' And he right away rolled out the red carpet," David cried.

"I remember always sitting at their table and Art praying for me over dinner because Art always saw something in me that I never saw in myself," friend Stephanie Garcia said.

David said Arzola had just married the love of his life.

"My brother, he loved you so much, Krystle," he said.

Family members said Arzola passed up a chance to fly up to Humboldt State because he wanted to be with the high school students on the bus.

"Until we're together again my big brother, thank you," David said.
