Man, 29, Arrested For Allegedly Attacking Restaurant Patrons With Knife In Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE (CBSLA.com) — A 29-year-old Riverside County man was facing assault charges Tuesday after he allegedly attacked several people with a knife at a Lake Elsinore restaurant.
Johnathan Schmidt, of Lake Elsinore, was arrested Sunday for assault with a deadly weapon and battery, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.
Around 11:10 p.m. that night, police were dispatched to a restaurant in the 31000 block of Riverside Drive for an assault call.
Once they arrived on scene, they found a male victim suffering from non-life threatening stab wounds, officials said.
"The altercation occurred when the victim attempted to stop a fight involving others at the establishment when he was cut with a knife," Officer Melendez said.
Authorities learned that Schmidt had fled the scene in his green Ford Explorer and he was later arrested during a traffic stop.
A knife was also recovered from the vehicle.
