Students, Teachers Forced To Evacuate When Fire Breaks Out At OC Elementary School

ALISO VIEJO (CBSLA.com) — Students and teachers were forced to evacuate Monday when a fire broke out at a Jewish elementary school and temple in Aliso Viejo.

The blaze happened at Temple Beth Elementary School just before 2 p.m., according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

About 25 preschool students safely exited the school, officials said.

A group of staffers had to leave the building in close proximity to the fire, which started in a storage area under some stairs.

"There was smoke and fire below them, but the sprinkler kept the fire in check," Concialdi said. "That's why we never recommend storage underneath stairs because when people try to exit a building, fire and smoke rise and the gases can overtake them."

Thirty firefighters extinguished the flames.

No one was injured.

The incident is under investigation.
