Parents In Boyle Heights Kidnapping Plead Not Guilty

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A couple accused of abducting their four children and taking them to Mexico pleaded not guilty Tuesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Enrique Felix, 27, and 28-year-old Rose Chairez both face with two counts of kidnapping, four counts of child stealing and one count of first-degree burglary with a person present.

The couple allegedly abducted their two sons, ages 8 and 6, and their 1-year-old twin daughters on March 14 from their maternal grandmother, who had custody.

The children were found on March 18 at the Mexican border and returned home.

Felix and Chairez were arrested Sunday after surrendering to authorities at the Otay Mesa border crossing.

The judge set bail at $570,000 for Felix and $510,000 for Chairez, officials said.

If convicted, Felix is facing nearly 50 years in state prison while Chairez faces nearly 20 years behind bars.

The couple was scheduled to return to court April 11.
