Investigation Into Fatal 2-Vehicle Accident In Oxnard Continues

OXNARD (CBSLA.com)  — The investigation into what caused a fatal accident in Oxnard Saturday is on-going.

Authorities said about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Fifth Street and K Street to respond to a call about a collision involving two vehicles.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, driven by a female, was traveling southbound on K Street approaching Fifth Street. A Dodge C5500 tow truck was traveling westbound on Fifth Street. For an unknown reason, the Jeep failed to stop for the red light, entered the intersection and into the path of the truck, driven by 36-year-old Joseph Ramirez.

The impact of the collision caused fatal injuries to the Jeep driver. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

Ramirez, an Oxnard resident, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Saint John's Regional Medical Center. He was treated and released.

Neither vehicle had a passenger.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash.
