CHP Chases Female Suspect Wanted For Unknown Traffic Violation

SEAL BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The CHP chased a suspect on the northbound 605 in Seal Beach Sunday evening.

The chase started about 7:45 p.m. in South Orange County, according to officials.

The pursuit last about 40 minutes and ended in Lakewood.

The suspect -- driving a Toyota Sequoia -- was originally wanted for an unknown traffic violation.

The CHP took over the chase from Orange County Sheriff's.

After about 25 minutes, the suspect got off the freeway, rode on a few surface streets and moved into the Long Beach area.

At least five patrol cars followed the suspect.

The suspect, a female, got out of the vehicle and tried to flee.

Stu Mundel, in Sky9, said the suspect didn't drive erratically but appeared to look disoriented when she got out of the vehicle.

While law enforcement was very close to her, when she got out of the vehicle, "she looked like she was saying 'if I don't see you, you can't see me.'"

He said the woman was "extremely defiant" and refused to get into a patrol vehicle.

She was eventually taken into custody by Lakewood Sheriff's and CHP.
