WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Officials say a teenaged boy was arrested after he allegedly fired a weapon at police in Whittier on Friday.

The unidentified teen was approached by an officer  around 11 p.m. near Sante Fe Springs Road and Nogal Avenue.

“As the officer drove toward the person, [the suspect] suddenly turned, firing several rounds at the officer’s patrol car,” police said in a statement.

The officer tracked the teen and radioed his location and movements to other patrol units. The boy was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer.

The officer was unhurt. Officials said the police cruiser sustained minor damage.
