Parenting Expert Lisa Lori Shares Family Travel Tips For Spring Break

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) – Parenting expert Lisa Lori visited KCAL9 Friday to share family travel tips for spring break.

Some of Lori's tips include:

Don't Check All Your Bags
It may seem convenient, especially when traveling with kids, but for airplane trips, always bring one or two small carry on pieces of luggage. For your toiletries and must-have personal care items, pack TSA-approved travel sizes. According to the TSA website, the rule for carry-ons is "3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume)."

Kids Travel Backpack
The night before every trip, we pack the 'kids' backpack full of things they will need in the car or on an airplane.

Pamper Yourself, It's Vacation
Just because you are on vacation doesn't mean you shouldn't bring along items that make you happy. I always bring along things that make me enjoy my vacation that much more.

Hairy Travel
Finally, long lazy days on the beach, pool or the slopes mean I don't want to fuss with my hair much, so I bring plenty of hair bands and accessories at the drugstores that dress up my hair without a lot of work.

Book Your Fun Activities Ahead
In the old days when it was just my husband and I, we used to travel whenever our work schedules allowed and avoided heavy travel times. Now that our kids are all in school, we have to go on vacation when everyone else on the Eastern seaboard does. In the beginning when we were new parents, we'd arrive at a hotel exhausted, sun deprived and eager to get in a great restaurant in town, book a babysitter for one night or try the spa ahead only to be told, "Sorry, we're all booked up." So now I do what I have to do and book up a bunch of slots and then cancel if I need to when we are there, but at least I have the option.
