Parents Arrested For Child Endangerment After Girl, 11, Found Living In Filthy Conditions

LOS ANGELES (CBSAL.com) — An 11-year-old girl was in protective custody Thursday after authorities discovered she was living in filthy conditions while her parents allegedly sold phony drugs.

On March 18, a task force responded to a home in the 4700 block of Eagle Rock Boulevard in Glendale for a routine probation check of 38-year-old Thomas Cassillas.

Cassillas was on "probation for narcotic possession and is subject to search and seizure as part of his probation condition," spokesperson Tahbee Lightfoot of the Glendale Police Department said.

Cassillas lived at the residence with his girlfriend, 36-year-old Vanessa Hidalgo, and their 11-year-old daughter.

A search of the home revealed "ammunition and what appeared to be heroin. The residence was in complete disarray and smelled of urine/feces and rotting food," Lightfoot said in a statement.

Due to the conditions of the home, Hidalgo and Cassillas were placed under arrest for child endangerment and possession of ammunition.

An investigation further revealed that Cassillas was selling fake heroin disguised as Mexican candy.
