Calif. To Send 18 Search And Rescue Personnel To Aid In Wash. Mudslide Search

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters from across the Southland Tuesday will travel to Washington state to aid in the search for victims of a massive mudslide.

The specialists, who were being sent to a rural area near Oso, Wash., at the request of FEMA, include 18 Urban Search and Rescue Specialists from the Riverside, San Diego, Los Angeles City and Orage County fire departments.

"Team members provide command, coordination and logistical support to agencies on scene of a disaster," Riverside fire officials said.

Saturday's mudslide killed 14 people and up to 176 remain missing, according to the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management.
