3 Arrested In Claremont On Suspicion Of Identity Theft

CLAREMONT (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have arrested three people in Claremont in connection with identity theft charges.

The men are accused of stealing personal information from at least 100 victims, Claremont police said in a statement.

The suspects were arrested at the Doubletree Hotel in the 500 block of West Foothill Boulevard about 1 p.m. Saturday.

Police said they were tipped off after it was discovered that a person staying at the hotel had allegedly used a stolen credit card to pay for his stay and $300 in room service charges.

When officers arrived, they made contact with one of the suspects who they said was allegedly in possession of a card printer, magnetic strips, and other equipment used to make credit cards.

That suspect was identified by police as 36-year-old Christian Gutierrez, a transient.

Police said they also arrested 26-year-old James Pinto, also a transient, and 32-year-old Colin of West Covina in a second room they alleged was also paid for with the stolen card.

All three were being held at the Claremont Police Department on suspicion of identity theft and other charges.

The men will possibly be arraigned on March 4, police said.
