GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBSLA.com/AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke is expected to miss his next scheduled start in spring training because of a strained right calf.

Greinke was hurt Thursday while throwing only four pitches against Arizona.

Greinke had been scheduled to start again on Tuesday against Seattle.

“As of right now, it doesn’t look like he’s going to make that,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Friday.

Greinke, the Dodgers’ No. 2 starter, underwent treatment and also played catch.

The right-hander had been scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday. Mattingly said the bullpen work probably won’t happen until he’s confident that there’s no chance of Greinke suffering further injury to the calf.

“It looks like we’ll hold off on that,” Mattingly said. “He’ll probably play catch again. Obviously, we’re going to be on the cautious side of things. If he wasn’t feeling anything and felt totally comfortable, he’d throw his `pen tomorrow. Obviously, there’s feeling in there.”

Greinke didn’t comment Friday about the condition of his calf. After he left the mound Thursday, the Dodgers medical staff said the strain was minor.

Greinke wore a sleeve on the calf Friday. He walked around the clubhouse without a limp.

It still wasn’t clear how the injury will affect Greinke’s availability for the Dodgers’ two games in a season-opening series in Australia on March 22-23 against Arizona.

Although Dodgers.com said Greinke seems likely to be out for the Australia series, Mattingly said he will not rule him out until they get closer to the date.
