DA Seeking Death Penalty In Canoga Park Double Murder

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles District Attorney will pursue the death penalty against a man charged in the fatal stabbings of a Canoga Park woman and her six-year-old daughter.

Mario Estrada Ochoa, 36, is awaiting trial for the May 14, 2010, killings of his sister-in-law, Martha Carmona, and her daughter, Valerie Camacho, who had been found dead by Carmona's husband in the family home in the 6900 block of Remmet Avenue, near Canoga and Hart avenues.

Ochoa's murder charges include the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders.

City News Service reports he is due back in court for a pretrial hearing April 30.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman.
