ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Sweet Swap beat Zimmer by 1 3/4 lengths Sunday in the $75,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes for older horses at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, the 5-year-old colt ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.28 and paid $8.60, $4.20 and $3.40. Zimmer returned $12.20 and $7.20, and Pure Tactics paid $5 to show.
The victory, worth $45,840, improved Sweet Swap’s earnings to $227,133. It was third win from seven tries down the hill and his fifth win from 11 overall starts.
