Montclair Residents Left Without Water Following Gas Leak

MONTCLAIR (CBSLA.com) — Scores of residents and businesses in Montclair went without water for a third day following a gas leak.

A water leak was first reported Tuesday evening about 6:30. Several hours later, work crews said they smelled natural gas.

Southern California Gas said the leak occurred, underground, at the corner of Central Avenue and Palo Verde Street.

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz talked to the Saldana family, one of as many as 1,000 people affected.

They were staying at a motel tonight -- and maybe through tomorrow evening -- as they have no hot water and can't use their stove.

"You don't realize how much you depend on hot water until you don't have it," Saldana said.

He had already taken a cold shower at 4 a.m. and said that was not going to become a recurring option.

Cruz reported SoCal Gas was giving the affected customers vouchers so that they could shower at 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness.
