Silver Lake Police Search For 2 Hit-And-Run Drivers Who Left Pedestrian For Dead

SILVER LAKE (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for two hit-and-run drivers who struck a pedestrian Thursday night in Silver Lake.

The man, who remains unidentified, was struck by a vehicle as he crossed a dimly-lit area of Riverside Drive, south of Fletcher Drive. It's an area residents say is extremely dangerous for pedestrians.

The first car struck the man, knocking him to the pavement. Moments later, a second driver ran over the man, dragging him for a short distance. The LAPD reports both drivers sped off without stopping to check on the victim.

The victim did not survive his injuries.

"It looked pretty bad. I kind of made my way over there and saw a man lying on the floor," witness Luis Arana said. "It's pretty sad to see these things happen...the right thing to do is stay there, call an ambulance."

Arana says that heavily-trafficked area of Riverside Dr. needs a crosswalk or better lighting.

The LA County Coroner's Office has yet to identify the victim, beyond describing him as a white man in his 40s, wearing dark-colored clothing.

Anyone with information was asked to call the LAPD.

Meanwhile, an LA City Council committee is considering a pilot program that would offer a standing reward, up to $50,000, to help increase the chances of convicting hit-and-run drivers.
