14-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck By Vehicle After Getting Off School Bus

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A 14-year-old boy was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday after he had just gotten off a school bus in Lancaster.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. in the 14000 block of East Avenue J, according to Officer Peter Bishop of the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2014 Kia Forte, identified as 66-year-old Cecilio Lopez Navarro, was moving behind the bus, which pulled to the right shoulder near 130th Street East, the CHP reported.

As the Kia passed the bus, the victim crossed Avenue J into the path of Navarro's car, where he was hit and died at the scene.

Navarro, who was not arrested or cited, was driving between 30 and 35 miles per hour when the accident happened, the CHP said.

No other information was made available.
