Investigators Probe Double Homicide In San Juan Capistrano

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding a double homicide in southern Orange County.

The deadly incident was reported just before 2 a.m. Sunday when officials received a 911 call from within the home in the 32000 block of Peppertree Bend in San Juan Capistrano, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

Investigators say an 8-year-old boy was also seriously injured. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Officials said the boy is expected to survive.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper spoke to stunned neighbors and friends of the family's.

"They were just loving, smiling people," said Kelley Winterbottom, who said she was best friends with the victim.

She lives in the same upscale San Juan Capistrano neighborhood.

Winterbottom says she spent Friday evening with the victims, Brad and Andra Sachs, at their home. News of the couple being slain came as a shock to her.

"I couldn't imagine anybody wanting to hurt them for anything," she says.

But that wasn't the reaction from some tenants who rented from the couple in a commercial business building near by, suggesting the couple was very much disliked.

Neighbors say Brad and Andra were in their 50's and had five children together -- two in college, two in high school and the 8-year-old.

"At this point it appears that it's isolated, the incident is isolated to that particular residence," said Lt. Jeff Hallock.

Many neighbors gathered outside as deputies were investigating, some were crying, some calling family members. Those who live near the couple say they didn't deserve this.

"We're here for the kids. We love them. They were a wonderful, wonderful family," said Vlesydi Loveland, a neighbor.

Deputies told Hopper they had not yet identified a suspect or established a motive for the murders.
