19-Year-Old Man Killed In South LA Hit-And-Run Crash

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old man was killed Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles.

Jerry Arredondo Jr., of Los Angeles, was fatally struck around 7:30 p.m. at Wadsworth Avenue and East 106th Street, the Los Angeles County Coroner said.

The suspect's vehicle, a 2013 silver Chevy Camaro Hertz rental car, crashed into Arredondo as he was getting out of his car, according to the LAPD.

"They were traveling at a high rate of speed, approximately up to maybe 100 mph on a residential street. He hit a dip at the corner of Wadsworth, lost control. The first collision was actually the victim's car and at that point, that's when he hit the victim, throwing the victim approximately 40 feet," Sgt. Hendley Hawkins said.

The suspect fled the scene in a silver BMW.

The LAPD said Wednesday that they have contacted the driver's uncle, as well as the woman who rented the Camaro. However, no arrests have been made.

"If you have enough courage to do what you did and still run away, have courage to come out and say that you did it," the victim's cousin Felix Pool said.

Arredondo, who is the oldest of four children, had graduated high school in spring 2013.

Anyone with information about the incident was encouraged to contact police.
