Valley Residents Warned Of Rash Of Catalytic Converter Thefts

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Monday warned San Fernando Valley residents of a recent increase in catalytic converter thefts.

According to officials, suspects have been targeting Honda Accord models built between 1998 and 2004 and Acura TL vehicles.

"The suspect will raise the vehicle with a jack and use a metal cutting tool to cut the catalytic converter from the vehicle," police said.

Authorities recommended car owners at risk park in a well-lit area and to etch converters with a serial number to allow for easier tracking if stolen.
