Simi Valley Cop Helps Deliver Baby Girl At 76 Gas Station

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Simi Valley Police this weekend said that one of their own helped deliver a baby girl.

Sr. Officer Kyle Crocker was dispatched to a 76 gas station near Stearns and Bernard streets around 2 p.m. Saturday.

When he arrived on scene, police said he positioned mom so she could deliver the bundle of joy while an Explorer Scout, who was on a ride-a-long at the time, watched over the other children in the car.

Minutes later, 6-pound, 11-ounce Ariel was born.

The baby's mother, Patricia Garcia, told KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold that little Ariel was in a hurry to debut.

"It was time and she wasn't waiting," said Garcia. "We were in the car, she was pushing to get out. We only made it around the corner. We saw the gas station and pulled in."

Garcia's son (she has three other children) called 911.

Senior 911 dispatcher Anna May took the call.

"We knew she's in the car, the baby's pushing. We knew we had to get her help," said May.

Although Crocker had never delivered a baby before he was ready.

"It only took about five minutes," he said, smiling. "I saw the head come out and then the baby came out. It was very quickly, surprisingly," Crocker said.

Garcia never expected little Ariel to show up so quickly. From start to finish, labor to delivery, she said took about 40 minutes.

"I still can't believe it, it happened so fast," said Garcia, "on her birth certificate it says 76 gas station."
