2 Dead, Woman Critically Injured When Car Careens Off 60 Freeway

BEAUMONT (CBSLA.com) — Two people reportedly were killed and another critically injured when the car they were in careened off the 60 Freeway in Beaumont and slammed into a tree.

The accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday near the West Knolls Avenue exit, and the 10 Freeway junction, according to California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle drove off the freeway, over a dirt embankment and into a tree.

Two passengers, a man and a woman in their 20s or 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The 34-year-old woman driving was able to call her family, gurgling into her phone, to tell them about the accident. They reported the incident to CHP.
The driver was transported to a Beaumont hospital in critical condition. She is a resident of Cathedral City.

Witnesses told investigators the crash may have been triggered by another vehicle that may have cut off the victim's car.
