Man Sentenced To Life For OC Family Killings

SANTA ANA (AP) — A second man has been sentenced to life without parole in Orange County for helping kill the family of his friend's ex-girlfriend.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Charles Murphy Jr. was sentenced Friday.

He's one of three men convicted of murdering the father and sister of Shayona Dhanak and attempting to murder her mother in a 2007 attack on their Anaheim Hills home. The home was set on fire. The father and daughter were stabbed and burned.

Prosecutors say Murphy's friend, Iftekhar Murtaza, wanted the family dead after Dhanak ended their two-year relationship, citing family religious differences.

Jurors have recommended death for Murtaza. His friend, Vitaliy Krasnoperov, previously received a life sentence.

Murphy's lawyer, Michael Molfetta, says his client was a good kid who got caught up with the wrong person.
