FAA: Colby Fire Smoke Not Affecting Air Traffic
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — The huge smoke plume from a fire burning above foothill suburbs has spread across greater Los Angeles and out to sea, but the Federal Aviation Administration says it is not affecting air traffic.
Spokesman Ian Gregor says, however, that temporary flight restrictions have been imposed in the area where the Colby Fire broke out before dawn Thursday in the San Gabriel Mountains above the city of Glendora.
The restriction is intended to protect firefighting aircraft and covers a five-mile radius around the fire from the ground up to 6,000 feet above sea level.
The plume is visible in National Weather Service satellite images.
