The 67-year-old victim told authorities that he had just finished working out at the 24-Hour Fitness on Van Karman Avenue when he spotted the suspect allegedly attempting to hide in his van's backseat.

The incident unfolded about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect allegedly fled but was subsequently located by a K-9 unit, Irvine police said in a department statement.

Police identified the suspect as 42-year-old Alexie Rodriguez.
