LOS ANGELES (AP) — Forecasters are warning of an onslaught of gusty, dry conditions that have raised fire danger in swaths of Southern California.

The National Weather Service has predicted a siege of northeast winds and very low humidity through Monday.

Red flag warnings are in effect for portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Temperatures in the upper 70s were reported across the region on Sunday, with relative humidity in the single digits.

Winds are gusting between 50 and 55 mph in the mountains and between 40 and 45 mph in coastal and valley areas.

The Los Angeles Times says the Fire Department has positioned extra resources at stations serving high hazard brush areas.

Weather Service forecaster David Sweet tells the newspaper motorists should be aware of strong crosswinds, and large vehicles should be driven with caution.
