TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — A Torrance mother is fighting back after a Facebook user flagged a picture she posted of her breastfeeding her baby as pornography and nudity.

“I was nursing her. And she fell asleep, and it was naptime, and we were close and cuddling, and it was sweet,” Marissa Brown said. “This is what babies do. It’s what women were made for.”

Brown told KCAL9’s Brittney Hopper that she posted a second picture of her breastfeeding with an explanation of what happened the first time. She received dozens of shares and comments from mothers supporting the picture.

The photo, however, also got flagged, but as hate speech.

“I’m not anti-formula. I’m not anti-anything. I’m pro-breastfeeding. I’m pro-taking care of your child in any way that suits your family best,” she said.

While Brown received a Facebook notification about the photos, the social network’s own nudity and pornography policy respects the rights to share photos of a child breastfeeding.

“As moms we’re just trying to do the best things that we can for our children and we don’t need negative input,” Brown said.

Brown said she doesn’t plan to remove the controversial pictures from her Facebook page.
