LA, OC Leads Nation In Adding Construction Employment For 2013

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles and Orange counties added more construction employment in 2013 than any other metropolitan area in the nation, a trade group said Tuesday.

According to the Associated General Contractors of America, an analysis of federal jobs data found an estimated 17,300 jobs were added in the construction sector in the Los Angeles and Santa Ana areas.

The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale area got 9,100 of those full-time equivalent jobs, and 8,200 jobs were in Orange County.

Only the greater Atlanta area beat either of the California counties with 10,500 jobs.

"Construction employment continued to expand in many parts of the country in November, but most areas have a long way to go before reaching prior peak levels," said Stephen E. Sandherr, chief executive officer of the trade group.
