Whether you’re into hiking, horseback riding or just admiring nature’s beauty, then Vasquez Rocks just between Santa Clarita and Palmdale is the perfect place to escape the city for a day. The more than 900 acres of red sandstone rock formations that make up Vasquez Rocks was named after Tiburcio Vasquez, an infamous California bandit who used the rocks to hide from law enforcement in the 19th Century. Today, park goers can enjoy many hiking and equestrian trails and picnic areas, all with the magnificence jagged rock backdrop. There are also animal exhibits and displays, as well as a historic ranger’s house to explore should you choose to make your visit educational. On the first Sunday of each month, there is also a free guided tour available should you want to learn more about the area.

No matter how you decide to enjoy Vasquez rocks, come prepared, as there is no drinking water available on-site. Enjoy a scenic drive from the city to Vasquez Rocks through Placerita Canyon State Park in a 2013 ML63 AMG SUV from Mercedes-Benz of Encino. The comfortable ride and luxurious interior that Mercedes-Benz is known for will ease achy muscles from a strenuous day outdoors.
