Girl, 5, Saved Grandmother's Life With 911 Call

MURRIETA (CBSLA.com) — A five-year-old girl helped to save her grandmother's life Monday when she called 911 after the woman collapsed at home.

Paramedics were called to the 40200 block of Via Acuna around 11 p.m. to treat the elderly victim for a life-threatening condition after she fell unconscious, according to Murrieta Fire Department spokesman Matt Corelli.

Firefighters interviewed the girl, who said she was unable to wake her grandmother and dialed 911.

Corelli said help arrived within minutes and the woman, whose identity has not been released, was admitted to a local hospital for further treatment.

Murrieta Fire plans to present her granddaughter with a Life Saver Award in the next few weeks.

"The quick action and awareness of the 5-year-old ... was vital to her grandmother's immediate treatment and survival," Corelli told City News Service.

"Without this 5-year-old girl's actions, the outcome could have been very tragic."
