South LA Barricade Situation Ends Peacefully After Nearly 8 Hours

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man was taken into custody after allegedly threatening his family and police with a butcher knife in South Los Angeles.

Officers responded to West 85th Place on Saturday afternoon following a "man with a knife" call.

Upon arriving on scene, police say the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and asked officers to kill him.

A SWAT team tried to negotiate with the man and fired tear gas into the home to coax him out.

The barricade situation lasted for nearly eight hours. The man eventually surrendered.

No one was hurt.

The MTA brought in a bus to help shelter the evacuated nearby residents during the ordeal.
