Man Described As Mentally Ill Barricades Himself Inside South LA Home

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a man wielding a butcher knife, who has been described as having mental problems, has barricaded himself inside a South Los Angeles home.

Officers responding to a man with a knife call said the suspect refused to surrender. Police confirm the suspect was shot with a beanbag and a Taser before he barricaded himself inside his home.

The incident is taking place in the 200 block of West 85th Place.

The barricade situation started around 4:15 p.m., said Sgt Rudy Alaniz, watch commander of the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station.

A SWAT team was called in to try and resolve the standoff, Alaniz said.

Officials said the man is in contact with law enforcement.
