Former Senior Home Maintenance Worker Gets 3 Years For Sexually Assaulting Woman With Dementia

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A former maintenance worker at an assisted living senior home in Yorba Linda was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 69-year-old disabled woman.

David Moreno, 29, of Riverside, pleaded guilty on Dec. 6 to a felony count each of sexual battery on an institutionalized victim and sexual penetration by foreign object of an incompetent victim, Orange County District Attorney's Office officials said.

Moreno worked as a maintenance worker at Emeritus Senior Living in Yorba Linda. Between June 1 and July 24, 2012, prosecutors say Moreno entered the room of a 69-year-old resident suffering from dementia and sexually assaulted her.

Brea police investigated after the woman told a close friend she had been assaulted by Moreno, prosecutors said. Investigators found DNA evidence in the woman's room and linked it to Moreno, who was arrested on Nov. 5, 2012, according to the Orange County DA.

Moreno was sentenced to serve three years in state prison and a lifetime of sex offender registration, which will bar him from entering Orange County's recreational areas and city parks.
