Warm Weather Will Delay Finishing Touches On Rose Parade Floats

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — The race is on to prepare the 45 elaborate and larger-than-life floats that will make their way down Colorado Boulevard for the 125th annual Rose Parade on New Year's Day.

With clear blue skies and warm temperatures forecast for New Year's Day, float decorators will be up against the clock a little more than usual.

Warm Weather Delays Placement Of Fresh Flowers For Rose Parade Floats

"With the weather being warmer, the flowers will probably go on a little later so they look as beautiful and fresh as possible," Fiesta Floats spokesman Stefan Pollack said.

Fiesta is one of the biggest names in float decoration, having built the past 20 parade sweepstakes winners and currently decorating 13 for the 2014 parade.

The parade's theme is "Dreams Come True," and picking a favorite float is like asking a parent to pick a favorite child, Pollack said.

"There are some perennial favorites, like Dole and Kaiser and Miracle-Gro, and plus a lot of our new entries, they're all wonderful floats that have different things to delight the crowd," he said.

Dole's float, "Sunrise at the Oasis," will feature three waterfalls, cascading more than 1,000 gallons of recycled water, 12-foot-long peacocks, a tigress and her cubs, camels, elephants and monkeys and 16 live performers. Dole has won the Sweepstakes Trophy the past three consecutive years.
