LA Woman Gets Jail, Counseling For Making 400+ False, Harassing 911 Calls

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles woman will serve jail time for making hundreds of harassing and false 911 calls in the past two years, prosecutors said Monday.

Linette Young, 43, was convicted on 12 counts of annoying or harassing 911 calls and 13 counts of making a false emergency report following a one-week jury trial, according to the City Attorney's Office.

Young was sentenced to three years probation, 180 days jail, as well as mandatory psychological counseling, prosecutors said. She was also ordered to have no contact with the Los Angeles Fire Department and refrain from calling 911 for non-emergencies.

Prosecutors say since Jan. 1, 2011, Young placed more than 400 calls to 911, sometimes up to six times per day. Between Jan. 1, 2013 and September 13, 2013 Young called 911 and requested paramedic assistance on 220 occasions, prosecutors said.

Other times, Young would go to Fire Station 66 on West Slauson Avenue seeking medical assistance.

On each occasion, Young was treated and found to have no medical issues and would refuse any transportation to hospitals, according to prosecutors.

"911 is for emergency calls only, and this conviction is part of our work to ensure that the public's lifeline is not abused," said City Attorney Mike Feuer.

A restitution hearing to determine the costs incurred by the city for the multiple responses to the unnecessary calls is scheduled for February.
