7-Eleven Clerk Fatally Shot During Highland Park Robbery

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — Police Monday were investigating the fatal shooting of a 7-Eleven clerk in Highland Park.

The shooting happened Sunday at a store in the 5100 block of Figueroa Street, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

According to authorities, two male suspects walked into the convenience store around 10:30 p.m. armed with at least one gun.

"They attempted to rob the clerk and they jumped over the counter. At that point, the clerk tried to escape and they shot him," said Lt. Patricia Sandoval.

The suspects escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

The clerk, who was discovered by another employee, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

The crime was caught on surveillance, police said.

The LAPD is trying to determine if the Highland Park crime is linked to another 7-Eleven store robbery Sunday in Lincoln Heights. No injuries were reported in that incident.

A suspect description was not released.

The victim was survived by his 5-year-old child.
