Alcohol A Suspected Factor In Fatal Rollover Crash In Coachella

COACHELLA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say one person was killed in a solo-vehicle rollover crash in Coachella early Sunday morning.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that a Dodge Ram pickup truck rolled over and came to stop in the 83000 block of Avenue 52.

The accident was reported about 3:39 a.m.

The statement said the victim, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person from the vehicle was reportedly observed by witnesses crawling out of the vehicle and walking away from the scene.

That person was subsequently picked up and driven away from the scene in another vehicle.

The statement said alcohol was suspected to have played a possible role in the collision.

The identity of the deceased has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with additional information about the crash was urged to call Coachella Traffic Investigators at (760) 863-8990.
