WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — A 26-year-old Whittier man Thursday faced assault with a deadly weapon charges after his father shot him during an argument.

The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 9600 block of Du Page Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Stephen Turner, Jr. had allegedly been fighting with his girlfriend at the home and had threatened to kill her with a knife.

In an attempt to get Turner to stop arguing with the woman, his father armed himself with his handgun.

Turner's father was not arrested.

No additional injuries were reported.
