Nearly 100 Dogs, Cats Rescued From 2 Lake Los Angeles Area Homes

LAKE LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Nearly 100 cats and dogs were rescued Monday at two Lake Los Angeles area homes.

County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control officers and district attorney investigators served a search warrant at the properties following a tip reporting an excessive amount of animals living in deplorable conditions.

A total of 96 animals, including a dead cat, were seized. A woman who lived on one of the properties was arrested and faces criminal animal cruelty charges, according to DACC Director Marcia Mayeda.

"Many of these animals were sick and all were living in extremely filthy conditions," Mayeda said. "The dogs and cats were scared and had varied states of medical and temperamental issues, requiring patience and extra compassion to help them through this."

The animals impounded are being assessed and cared for by a veterinary team.
