Around The NFL: This League Is Strange, Dangerous

By Danny Cox

The NFL does indeed bring a lot of joy and fun to so many people in the world, but there are those that forget about the scarier and more frightening side of things. It is often a side of sports that doesn't even need to be seen at all, but it unfortunately happens and it seems as if it will always be around.

Former Chiefs' LB Jovan Belcher's body exhumed for brain research

Former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher's body was exhumed at the request of his family and tests for brain research will be performed. Belcher murdered his girlfriend last year before killing himself in the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium.

Belcher's family hopes that exhuming his body and examining his brain will provide an explanation for last year's tragic murder suicide. Many scientists have said that the year-long span of time between Belcher's death and the actual examination could prove difficult to get exact information and research findings.

Three people stabbed in fights outside of Chargers/Broncos game

At least three people were reportedly stabbed in the parking lot of Sports Authority Field at Mile High after last Thursday's game between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers.

As police arrived to the "very chaotic" scene, they found three males suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds in the parking lot. Reports state that a fourth person may have been stabbed but ended up leaving the scene.

One man was initially in critical condition but all of them were conscious and talking to police. Three people were also taken into custody and two were released pending further investigation. A 29-year-old male is being held on assault charges. The Chargers defeated the Broncos 27-20.

Brandon Marshall owes money for wearing the wrong cleats again

On a lighter note – especially for Brandon Marshall's wallet – the wide receiver of the Chicago Bears has been fined yet again for wearing bright-colored cleats. The NFL fined Marshall $15,000 for wearing the bright orange cleats during Chicago's 45-28 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last Monday.

Back in October, Marshall was fined $10,500 for wearing lime green cleats against the New York Giants. He reportedly did it to promote Mental Health Awareness Week. The wide receiver had announced before the game that he was going to violate league codes and vowed to match his fine amount with a donation to charity.
