Boy, 11, Critical Following Compton Apartment Fire

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said an 11-year-old boy was critically burned Friday in a Compton apartment fire.

The unidentified boy, who also suffered smoke inhalation injuries, is in stable condition.

The fire also left a woman with minor burn injuries, according to Long Beach Fire Capt. Jim Arvizu.She was treated at the scene and released.

The fire broke out in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue just before 9 p.m. Friday, saidArvizu.

The first arriving units encountered moderate smoke and flames coming from a first-floor unit, he said, adding that firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and kept it from spreading to other apartments.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
