Man, 18, Arrested In Connection With Sexual Assault At Santa Ana Mall

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday made an arrest in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at an Orange County mall earlier this week.

Raymond Martin Daniel Boykin was taken into custody earlier Friday following a short pursuit in Anaheim, according to authorities.

Authorities say Boykin was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck several parked cars in the area of 500 N. Pauline Street. He then allegedly exited the vehicle, and reportedly ran into an apartment before being apprehended.

Santa Ana police confirmed to KCAL9's Michele Gile that the 18-year-old is accused in the sexual assault and robbery of a woman at the Westfield MainPlace Mall on Wednesday evening.

They told Gile that they too were in the area in search of Boykin.

"We did have him identified before this morning and we were actively investigating and looking for him," said Santa Ana Police Chief Carlos Rojas.

"For the last 48 hours, it's been an active investigation. An ongoing investigation and that's why our detectives happen to be in the area as they saw Anaheim police responding," he said.

Also earlier Friday, a second sexual assault coupled with a carjacking occurred in the parking lot of a Korean church on Brookhurst Street and La Palma Avenue in Anaheim.

It's not yet clear whether Boykin is also suspected in that attack although authorities said he matches the suspect description and was apprehended while allegedly in possession of the victim's stolen vehicle.
