Police Seek Public's Help In Locating Road-Rage Murder Suspect

ARLETA (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Thursday identified a 24-year-old street gang member as the shooter involved in a fatal July road-rage incident in the San Fernando Valley.

Luis Alberto Gutierrez, Jr. is wanted in the July 13 death of Richard Ruiz, 22, in North Hollywood, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

"We received a number of tips in this case, but it was one from Gutierrez's employer that broke the case open," said Lt. Paul Vernon. "But as soon as we started inquiring about Gutierrez, he abandoned his job and has been on the run ever since."

Gutierrez, who also goes by the moniker, "Green Eyes", was reportedly acting aloof following the murder, the employer told police. He also noticed that the suspect drove the same model of gray Challenger, and started to change his appearance in the days following the shooting, Lt. Vernon added.

Ruiz's passengers also recalled Guiterrez's striking green eyes following the shooting.

The suspect, who is also on probation for carrying a loaded gun, has been on the run since early August.

"We believe he is still in the area, but might be going back and forth to Mexico," Lt. Vernon said.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Ryan Verna, Mission Homicide Unit, at (818) 838-9976.
