Alhambra PD First In Nation To Use Chinese 'Twitter' For Crime Fighting

ALHAMBRA (CBSLA.com) — A San Gabriel Valley police department has become the first law enforcement agency  to create a "Weibo".

Weibo is a social media blogging site popular in China, which is similar to a hybrid of Facebook and Twitter.

The Pasadena Star News reports that the Alhambra Police Department is the first agency to distribute information in a language other than English.

Chief Mark Yokoyama says the population of Asian immigrants in the U.S. is rising, and he want to reach out to get their help solving crimes.

About 53 percent of residents in Alhambra are Asian, according to the 2010 Census.

The APD's Weibo was launched Monday.
