List Of Charges Filed In LASD Jails Probe

The following list is a breakdown of the charges faced by the 18 Los Angeles County Sheriff's department officials named in indictments and a criminal case unsealed today, and potential penalties, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office:

INDICTMENT 1:

  • Deputy Bryan Brunsting: two counts of deprivation of rights, three counts of false statements, one count of civil rights conspiracy;
  • Deputy Jason Branum: one count each of civil rights conspiracy,deprivation of rights and false statements.(Deprivation of rights and civil rights conspiracy each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, while the false statement charge carries up to 20 years in prison)

INDICTMENT 2:

  • Sgt. Eric Gonzalez: one count each of civil rights conspiracy and deprivation of rights;
  • Deputy Sussie Ayala: one count of civil rights conspiracy, two counts of deprivation of rights;
  • Deputy Fernando Luviano: one count of deprivation of rights;
  • Deputy Pantamitr Zunggeemoge: one count of civil rights conspiracy, two counts of deprivation of rights;
  • Deputy Noel Womack: one count of civil rights conspiracy, three counts of deprivation of rights.                     (Each civil rights offense carries up to 10 years in federal prison)

INDICTMENT 3:

  • Lt. Gregory Thompson: one count each of conspiracy and obstruction of justice;
  • Lt. Stephen Leavins: one count each of conspiracy and obstruction of justice;
  • Deputy Gerard Smith: one count each of conspiracy and obstruction of justice;
  • Deputy Mickey Manzo: one count each of conspiracy and obstruction of justice;
  • Deputy James Sexton: one count each of conspiracy and obstruction of justice;
  • Sgt. Scott Craig: one count each of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and false statement;
  • Sgt. Maricella Long: one count each of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and false statements.               (Conspiracy and false statement charges carry up to five years in prison, while obstruction of justice carries up to 10 years in prison)

INDICTMENT 4:

  • Deputy Richard Piquette: one count each of possession of an unregistered firearm and illegal manufacture of a firearm.

(Both charges carry up to 10 years in prison)

MORTGAGE FRAUD CASE:

  • Deputies Billy, Benny and Johnny Khounthavong: one count each of conspiracy.

(The count carries up to five years in prison)
