Fire Tears Through Roof Of Pasadena Apartment Building

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters scaled a two-story apartment building in Pasadena Sunday while battling a blaze that shot up through the roof.

The fire began shortly after 1 a.m. in a 14-unit apartment building at 585 North Hill Avenue, according to the Pasadena Fire Department.

Investigators believe a malfunctioning heater caused the fire to ignite a wall between two apartments.

Rescuers evacuated 30 people from the building, who watched outside in near-freezing temperatures as firefighters tried to knock down the blaze.

The blaze caused around $375,000 in damages to the structure and property.
