Ex-Long Beach Police Detective Accused Of Leaking Info To Gang

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Officials Friday announced the arrest of a former Long Beach police detective accused of using her position to help a criminal street gang.

Yvonne Robinson, 42, was fired last March after serving 13 years on the police force, according to Chief Jim McDonnell.

She was a detective assigned to the Long Beach Police Department juvenile division.

The former detective was arrested Thursday in Carson and faces charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice and knowingly aiding a criminal street gang.

Police also arrested Robinson's relative Prentice Jones, who they say is a known member of the gang.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Jones is the 24-year-old brother of Robinson's brother-in-law and belongs to the Baby Insane Crips.

Detectives say members of the gang killed a man in 2009 and Robinson is accused of sharing information about that case with Jones.

"In order to gather evidence to prove Robinson's role in the crime she was placed under surveillance. Over the course of several months, detectives were able to gather sufficient evidence to prove that Robinson was using her position as a detective to review police reports and provide information to Jones. After Jones received the information he passed it along to the leaders of that gang," McDonnell said.

The police chief wouldn't elaborate on what specific information Robinson allegedly shared. He said he wasn't sure what the former detective may have gained from reportedly aiding the gang besides helping a relative.

Both Robinson and Jones posted bail Friday and were released.
